What Is a Brow Lift?

Sagging eyebrows and loose forehead skin are two early signs of facial aging that can make you appear chronically tired or angry; they can also affect your field of vision by hanging over or around the corners of the eyes. A brow lift raises descending eyebrows and tightens the forehead skin for a refreshed youthful appearance.

The Benefits of a Brow Lift

A brow lift, which is sometimes referred to as a forehead lift, can improve the appearance of aesthetic imperfections, including:

  • Loose, saggy forehead skin
  • Creases, or so-called “frown lines,” between the eyebrows
  • Drooping eyebrows
  • Horizontal forehead wrinkles

Blepharoplasty is often a perfect complement to a brow lift. Blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat from around the eyelids. When combined with a brow lift, it can refresh the region from the hairline to below the eyes.

Our Brow Lift Techniques

As with other plastic surgery procedures, there are different approaches to a brow lift. The two primary techniques for raising the brow are endoscopic and coronal. Both involve smoothing the forehead’s skin tone by lifting tissues and reshaping the muscles below.

  • An endoscopic brow lift uses a thin tube with a tiny camera to access a few small incision marks along the hairline. The camera allows your plastic surgeon precise control in manipulating the skin and muscle tissue to correct wrinkles and loose skin.
  • A coronal brow lift employs a longer, single incision across the top of the head. This provides direct access to the underlying musculature.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?

Brow lifts are typically performed on people who have sagging or drooping eyebrows, which can make them look older than they are. It can also be used to correct problems with vision caused by hooded eyelids.

Candidates for a brow lift should be in good health and not pregnant or breastfeeding. They should also have realistic expectations about what the surgery can achieve. People who smoke or drink heavily may not be good candidates for a brow lift, as these habits can increase the risk of complications.

Looking Forward to Your Impressive Results

The results of your brow lift will be immediately noticeable, although there will be some residual swelling and bruising, which will fade. The results will continue to take shape as your skin heals in the following weeks and months. The results can last indefinitely with good skin care, including sun protection. However, a brow lift will not stop the aging process, and your skin will eventually begin to lose some of its tone and elasticity.

When Will I Be Able to Resume My Normal Activities?

Most patients can resume routine activities within a couple of weeks, and your plastic surgeon will monitor your recovery and gradually clear you for increased activity.
