An arm lift (or Brachioplasty) is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the arms. It involves removing excess skin and fat from the arms and tightening the underlying muscles to give them a more youthful appearance.

Creating a Toned Look You’ll Love

Brachioplasty, which is often referred to as an arm lift, is a plastic surgery procedure to remove the excess skin that gathers below the upper arms as a side-effect of dramatic weight loss and is often performed after bariatric surgery.

These folds of skin can be substantial, inhibiting movement and leading to chafing and discomfort. With an arm lift, our plastic surgeons at Precision Medical Arts can remove the loose skin and leave your upper arms with firm, smooth contours.

The benefits of Brachioplasty

Brachioplasty offers practical benefits as well as aesthetic ones. The heavy, sagging skin that accumulates after major weight loss does not respond to positive changes in diet and exercise, and it often causes progressive skin irritation.

In some cases, the skin is so substantial that it may impair your arms’ full range of motion and make both moving and resting feel awkward and uncomfortable.

This excess skin can further limit your wardrobe choices and make you feel self-conscious about how you look.

An arm lift restores proportion and tone to the upper arms and relieves the effects of skin chafing. It provides a more natural appearance and allows you to fit comfortably into your clothes once more.

Your Brachioplasty Experience

Arm lifts typically involve incisions made on the insides or backs of the arms, which may extend from the underarm area to just above the elbow. The placement and length of the incisions will depend on where the excess skin has gathered and the amount of skin to be removed.

After the superfluous skin is removed, lingering fat deposits may be eradicated with liposuction. The supportive tissue that helps shape the upper arms is then tightened, and the remaining outer skin tissue is closed and contoured.

There are variances in Brachioplasty procedures that depend on several individual factors, including whether liposuction will help you enjoy your ideal results. Your plastic surgeon will discuss your options with you in detail during your consultation.

How long will my arm lift result last?

If you’re able to maintain a healthy lifestyle and stable weight, the effects of your arm lift will last indefinitely. Though it’s important to note that as our bodies age, our skin naturally loses tone and elasticity. Your plastic surgeon will thoroughly review your recovery guidelines and expectations with you before your procedure.

Enjoying Your Final Results

The results of your Brachioplasty will be immediately noticeable, although you will have some bruising and swelling in the upper arms following the procedure. You will also have lingering incision scars, although these are largely concealed by their location and will fade with time.
